Issue #89

Good Evening

And what can I tell you? Thanksgiving is over, university kids are back to school, and now you're wondering - do I dress up for Halloween this year? And just for fun I looked up what's going to be popular this year and you guessed it ... Barbie and Ken!

Before I begin with what's coming up, I wanted to follow up on Pumpkins After Dark. I got a chance to go and see it. It was amazing! As soon as we got out of the car in the dark parking lot, we could hear spooky cackling and faint music. Excitement was in the air! And every year, I'm absolutely amazed by all the creative ideas and excellent workmanship. The park layout and the displays were different this year compared to last.

Here are 5 reasons why you should go:

  1. πŸŽƒ Getting into the Halloween spirit: See iconic creepy characters and loads of pumpkins alive with lights?
  2. πŸŽƒ The high quality: These are unlike any pumpkins you have ever seen. The displays are so unique and intricate that people take their time to really look at them. The crowd lingers appreciatively from one to the next. Our fav this year was the large Pac-Man machine (made of pumpkins, of course!)
  3. πŸŽƒ Interactive: Test your observation skills and find the Pumpkin Twins to win a prize.
  4. πŸŽƒ It's for everyone: All the kids (our group had kids about 10 yrs to 15 yrs) and adults loved it! With over 50 themes, I dare you to think of one they don't have! And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the mysterious characters who greet you on the path and the live carving demonstrations in the Spook-Easy Barn.
  5. πŸŽƒ Food and beverages: Beaver Tails and Poutine make the trip that much sweeter. Head onto the trail to the right of the food truck, and you'll see the Spook Easy where you can try a free sample of Partake (a non-alcoholic beer) inside.

Trail of the Week

πŸ₯Ύ Take A Hike in Hamilton πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ

Ok, so I don't normally recommend trails outside of Halton and Mississauga but recently, someone posted a different picture of this bridge and posed the question: "Guess Where This Is?".

It then occurred to me that the bridge is pretty iconic, and it might be worth a visit. Not only that, you can see from the picture below that there are some nice colours at the time of this photo. Perhaps a great place to see fall colours?

And if that's not enough, there are plenty of waterfalls here.

Chedoke Radial Trail

This one can be long or short, depending on how far you want to go. The most popular part, however, is approximately 2.7km in length. The trail connects downtown Hamilton to the heart of Ancaster.

Here's a description according to Blogger I've Been a Bit:

Built on what was once the railroad tracks for the Brantford and Hamilton Electric Railway, it has since become a popular spot for hikers and cyclists in the city. If you’re looking for some lesser-known waterfalls, this is one of the best places to hike in Hamilton for them as you’ll pass by Princess Falls, Sanatorium Falls and Westcliffe Falls along the way. They might be smaller than some of their other waterfall counterparts in the city but they’re still beautiful to see.

πŸ§™β€β™€οΈ Gnome Road

I just came across something I didn't know about before. Have you ever heard of Gnome Road at Bronte Creek Park in Oakville?

This is a truly creative gnome village that flourishes in the forest on a section of Barrier Free Trail at Bronte Creek. It's a great place to bring the kids and take whimsical photos. To get there, find the signs for Gnome Road behind the Children's Barn.

THIS WEEK

I just realized that October 13th is actually a Friday this year. A perfect date to start this event called Halloween Hoopla!

Would you believe they will have animatronic dinosaurs? It's unusual for a Halloween event but somehow, it works! Not only that, they will also have:

  • Pumpkin painting
  • Exhilarating rides
  • Engaging games
  • live entertainment
  • food and more!

Halloween Hopla - Mississauga, 100 City Centre Dr, Parking Lot 6, on Oct 13 to 31.

🍺 Hops and Harvest

An event for the adults! Yeaaaahhh! But there is also a Kids Zone Stage for family-friendly entertainment.

Here's what they say about it:

Hops & Harvest is an autumn festival that features local food, beverage and marketplace vendors; all enjoyed in the great outdoors against the beautiful backdrop of the Niagara Escarpment.

I can see from their website that they'll also have live entertainment on the Main Stage. This looks like a great way to celebrate the harvest.

Hops and Harvest - Area 8 Conservation Area (5437 Steeles Ave W), Oct 13 to 15

Julie (Going-Places) at Pumpkins After Dark

Issue #87 Hello Going-Places Gallivanters! Almost October, and I'm in the apple pie and pumpkin spice latte kind of spirit. Speaking of which, have you seen this hilarious Ryan Reynolds ad? 🀣🀣🀣 In the fall, I'm bracing for winter. I like putting on my homemade oversized sweaters or ponchos and checking out the bright and colourful leaves before they drop and then all the leaves are brown, and the sky is gray ... 🎡. (Mamas and Papas refererence) And what can I tell you? Thanksgiving is around...
